About the customer:
Natural born adventurer, Laura Bingham, left home at 18 years of age to explore the earth and its kaleidoscope of cultures.
Laura travelled through the Greek Islands, Continental Europe, Africa, Asia and North/Central America before eventually landing in Mexico where she taught English and undertook challenging conservation work to protect the endangered Jaguar.
Challenging herself even further Laura, and a crew of two men and a cat, sailed back home to England across the Atlantic in a 38ft Trimaran.
Laura became known in 2016 when she cycled across South America with no money to raise money and awareness for a children’s charity in Paraguay called ‘Operation South America’.
About the project:
Laura came to us back in 2015 to request a new website on domain http://www.laurabingham.org/ to cover a social experiment where Laura would be travelling across South America on bicycle with no money. The idea was that Laura would work her way across the continent purely on kindness and generosity of local people along the way.
As part of this Laura wanted some way that visitors to the site could track Laura’s progress using an interactive map.
Along with all of this Laura wanted a clean, professional and fully functional website designed to exact customer requirements.
Once the initial expedition was completed Laura came back to us to re-design/develop a further new fresh look and feel to the website in 2017.
What we did:
The website was built on the WordPress framework with our own secure custom core template which allows us to build websites from the ground up to exact customer design requirements whilst ensuring that the website is responsive from a visitor’s point of view.
We communicated with Laura’s technical team at the supplier who provided the GPS tracking device to set up the page with interactive map. The tracking device allowed Laura to check in at intervals which would time stamp the pointer and provide GPS co-ordinates. This also allowed Laura to enter text to be associated with the pointer. We then took those co-ordinates along with the text entered and displayed on the map. This was achieved successfully and allowed Laura’s friends and family along with anyone else tracking Laura’s progress to see where the journey was at any one given time.
The rest of the site was developed in line with exact client design requirements.
Upon completion of the initial expedition we further designed/developed the site with a new fresh facelift to replace the old site.
The end result:
Over the course of two years we have successfully produced two websites for Laura culminating in providing both a professional and easy to navigate brochure style website. We continue to work with Laura on her exciting expeditions and look forward to the next iteration of the website evolvement.
